there is
no turning back
now

a comfortable
environment,
well-worn
and familiar

but never
truly home

its harsh,
unforgiving energy
forcing
elemental change

the gift
and curse
of such a place

i have reached
an impasse

one of a thousand
but perhaps
the most important

a distant land
calls to me -
grounding stability
of sacred earth

another state
another coast
a new beginning

i cannot yield
to complacency
any longer

no more ties
to this island
of struggle
and transition

i am already gone
