a cold, judgmental voice
chides
cuts
burns
with razor precision
hungry,
alone and scared
i am easy prey
for this proper
aristocratic tyrant
yet another
nameless victim
of her discontent
and vain attempts
at dispensing
social justice
now, lifetimes later,
the adversary returns
taunting me
through ego memory
fuck you
under your
self-centered guise
of feigned altruism
this reactivity,
a loud echo
of forgotten
childhood anger
subconscious
antagonism
towards an
imaginary enemy
carried forward
into the present
she is close
but far away
forgiveness
comes at a price
but is it worth the cost?
for my part,
there is no other choice
is blood truly thicker than water?
depends on the day
